TW: I'm sure if you're reading this, you've probably seen the MV. Please note that there may be images that are disturbing to some people, including things with blood and implied death. All translations either done by me through Google Translate or are from @txtonnews on Twitter! <3 EDIT: BIG HIT ADDED SUBS TO ETERNALLY!!!!!!!!11!1 The subs are now Big Hit's translations. Thank you, Big Hit ;-; SECTION ONE - The Night of the Last Day "On the night of the last day, the world lay in shattered ruins. Darkness descended on the boys and the night. Memories of a destined future draped slowly over them. The boys asked as they wandered [through] the [maze of nightmares], 'are there no other choices for us?' The boys were thrown into confusion." As are we all, boys. As are we all. With these words, the nineteen minute thirty-one second-long movi--sorry, music video--begins. Before anything happens, we see a dragon fly across the sky. Seems like this music video may take place right after 'Magic Island' MV. (Fig. 1.1) We open on a scene with a desolate landscape. Rubble covers the ground as far as the eye can see. It looks like the remains of a stadium. Perhaps...like the stadium from Magic Island? (Fig. 1.2) Fig. 1.1 - I still don't know what the dragon has to do with anything... Fig. 1.2 - Interesting connections... The scene begins to flash, showing each of the boys' NOAS (Nap of a star) "alter egos." Yeonjun has horns (although they're more curved and demon-esque), Hyuka has wings (although rather than being angel wings like in NOAS, they look demon-like), Taehyun has his eye (although now it's red and yellow rather than black and white), Beomgyu has spikes (but rather than being on his shoulder, they're now on his back and are much larger), and Soobin has his ears (which look mostly the same, but they are bigger). (Fig. 1.3) The five of them are simply standing, staring at the destruction around them, until Soobin looks around and picks up a book from the ground. (Fig. 1.4) This book has an interesting symbol on it, which looks very similar to the symbol shown in Run Away. When he looks at it in his hand, it seems to ring a bell and he steps up the rubble a little bit to give it to Yeonjun. I suppose he thought it was his. Fig. 1.3 - Why have their pains changed? Why have their fantastical elements grown? Fig. 1.4 - Similarities are everywhere in the +U. When Yeonjun turns around, however, he's...erm, bloody. No way to sugarcoat it, there's blood. Soobin is visibly startled, and he flinches back in surprise, losing his footing on the rubble at the same time. He falls back, but instead of crashing down into the remnants below, he wakes up in a practice room. (Fig. 1.5) When he wakes up, the camera zooms out as he looks around and we get to see what the other four boys are doing. Yeonjun is teaching Hyuka some sort of dance--okay, actually, it's the choreography for Fairy of Shampoo, but shhh--you didn't hear it from me! Taehyun is sitting on the opposite side of the room, with his headphones on and his head in his phone. When Soobin glances at him, he looks up, but goes back to his phone a second later. Meanwhile, Beomgyu is crouched directly in front of Soobin...filming him. A little odd, not gonna lie, but Soobin doesn't exactly seem concerned about it. We also get a lovely close-up of Hyuka's shoes--he steps on the back of them when he wears them. May seem like an unimportant detail--even though it personally drives me bonkers, a lot of people wear shoes like that, especially dancers--but it'll come back. Fig. 1.5 - When Soobin wakes up, the other four don't seem to notice. Except for maybe Beomgyu. We get a close-up of Beomgyu's phone next. The recording screen says 00:00:09, which means either he just started filming...or Big Hit didn't expect people to pay that much attention...moving on. Soobin glances around a bit more, as if he's still trying to wake up. When he looks towards the window, he tilts his head, confused. Why is it open? When he walks over to it, under the gorgeous soundtrack that is Sweat, you can hear a honking horn and brakes squealing. Nothing really out of the ordinary, they must be near a highway. Speaking of Sweat, the mirrors and windows are fogged, probably because this is a practice room, and they must've been dancing pretty hard. (Although now, the only ones dancing are Yeonkai...) Soobin closes the window and turns around...only to discover that the door is open as well. Soobin seems a little freaked out. He heads over to the door to close it, slowly. While he's walking over, we get a couple shots from behind the door, as if someone is watching. Similar to Magic Island, actually, when we get the shots from behind the plants, as if we're the ones watching Yeonjun. (Fig. 1.6) Soobin peeks through the door a couple times before grabbing the handle and throwing the door open, as if he wanted to catch someone. Of course...no one is there. Fig. 1.6 - Who is watching the boys? The cat? The star? Or someone we don't yet know... The hallway is dark, but very basic from what we can see. In the corner, near his foot, there's a fire extinguisher, and a lightswitch on the wall above it. There's a set of two TVs along the top of the right wall, and a door on the left. Further down, there's an emergency exit, and across from it, some garbage cans and an elevator panel, which simply leaves the elevator at the back. Soobin seems satisfied that no one is watching them, but before he can close it, there's a ding and the elevator doors open. When you look at the doors, however...no one is inside. (The control panel says that it's going up to the 2nd floor, which must mean they're on the ground floor.) Soobin steps forward a little, but just that fast the doors close. Then the light flicks on, as if someone hit a switch. But there's no one else in the corridor... (Fig. 1.7) When the lights do a quick strobe, that's when Soobin decides he's had enough. Immediately, he backs into the practice room and slams the door shut, but it's too late. No sooner does it click closed, then the lights in the practice room begin to flicker. A fire alarm is going off from somewhere in the building, creating this ear-piercing noise that is a stark contrast to the sweet music from before. Quick note--none of the boys have paid Soobin a lick of attention this whole time. They don't start freaking out until the lights in the practice room go out, which is when everyone stops what they're doing and starts looking around. All of them are jogging around the room, trying to figure out what's going on. Beomgyu is still filming. (NOTE: The clock turns back one second.) Something else interesting happens in this scene; we see all of them turn into their NOAS "alter egos" yet again. Except this time, it doesn't take place in a dream. Messages appear on the mirrors and windows. A couple of translations: (@TXTranslations on Twitter!) "What have we done wrong?" "I can't breathe." "I need to get out." "Don't go up the stairs." "Remember my name." "Find what's floating in the sky." "Are we really going to turn out like this in the end?" Fig. 1.7 - Hello, creepy elevator... There's a really weird noise, it almost sounds like a glitch. It starts out as a train sound (Magic Island?) but then, as if someone turned up the volume in a bad pair of headphones, the sound gets super distorted. (Haven't we heard this before? Where am I remembering this from?) (EDIT: I believe I may be thinking of Lie. [BU]) Soobin runs to the door and looks out at the elevator. (An interesting if minor detail: there is DEFINITELY a blue reflection in the glass door. What it is, I have no idea.) Before he can do anything, however, the hallway...moves. As if it went through a time warp, or was on a train. Soobin's first instinct? Open the door and roll out. (Fig. 1.8) (Bad instincts. Bad.) A water bottle begins to fall off of the table, but before it can...section one comes to a close. Fig. 1.8 - At least he tests it first...but still. I'll have to split this analysis into multiple parts, as this is already way longer than I intended. A note: that was only five minutes of footage...we've got a long way to go!
