TW: I'm sure if you're reading this, you've probably seen the MV. Please note that there may be images that are disturbing to some people, including things with blood and implied death. All translations either done by me through Google Translate or are from @txtonnews on Twitter! <3 EDIT: BIG HIT ADDED SUBS TO ETERNALLY!!!!!!!!11!1 The subs are now Big Hit's translations. Thank you, Big Hit ;-; SECTION FOUR - Room Number 17 - Beomgyu We're thrown straight back into the action, with the practice room again. Beomgyu is looking around, filming everything with his phone. He only puts it down when he ends up in a dark room, with nothing around him. (Similar to Yeonjun, actually.) Suddenly, a line of mirrors crashes towards him. When it reaches him, rather than stopping, it goes directly through him, to create a straight line as far as the eye can see. Beomgyu now seems to be in the mirror, as if it's his reflection or something. (Fig. 4.1) He reaches out as if to touch it, but stops himself. (Or maybe something stops him? It's hard to tell.) He doesn't seem scared, just startled. Just as abruptly as they appeared, the mirrors vanish, replacing themselves with one single wooden door directly behind him. There is a single number on the door--17--and a golden knob. That's it. Fig. 4.1 - That doesn't usually bode well... Of course, because of the horrible self-preservation skills I mentioned previously, he opens the door. There's a chain across the top, however, and so it only opens a little bit. The door opening launches us into an intense sequence of scenes where we are also trying to peer through the tiny crack in the door to see what's going on. Beomgyu (I'll refer to him as Dream-Beomgyu, to differentiate from the Beomgyu watching through the door) is inside, along with another person. I've seen a lot of theories about who this person could be, but they don't really look like any of the boys to me. This looks like a fully-grown man. I suppose I could see it being Soobin, as he's the tallest and it sort of matches his form, but I really don't know who it is. Either way, they're clearly arguing. Dream-Beomgyu has something tucked up underneath his jacket, and on closer inspection it appears to be a book. The same book from the beginning of the video, that Soobin attempts to give to Yeonjun. (Fig. 4.2) Dream-Beomgyu says something to the other person, I can't tell what. He looks as if he's angry, or talking back. Fig. 4.2 - Why is this book important? And why has it crossed paths with three people in twelve minutes? A moment later, Dream-Beomgyu backs into the corner, glancing around as if looking for a way out. I'm curious as to why he wants to leave so badly, as the other person isn't attacking him outright--only when Dream-Beomgyu tries to run away does he push him. That's not to say he isn't threatening him--we simply don't know enough about this scene. (Which, relates quite well to Present-Day-Beomgyu's (?) quote at the end of this section.) Dream-Beomgyu tries to make a break for the door where Present-Day-Beomgyu is watching, but the person catches him, throwing him back against the wall. There's a very short snippet of footage here that I find super interesting--it goes into the animated style for a moment. (Fig. 4.3) Why did it do that? None of the other boys' dreams go into the animation style...so why does Beomgyu's? When Dream-Beomgyu falls, he drops the book. We get a close-up at the cover (see Fig. 4.2 above) before he stands up, immediately scooping it back up and putting it back under his jacket. Why is he hiding it? The other person has to know it's there, from the amount of times they've shown it--plus, let's be honest, he's not hiding it very well. It's probably what the whole argument is about. Why continue to try to hide it? Fig. 4.3 - Why did it only do this in Beomgyu's section? Dream-Beomgyu moves slightly out of view as we flash between the animation and the live-action scenes for a moment. Present-Day-Beomgyu pulls out--what else?! His phone, using it to see around the corner of the door. (Clever!!) The camera view goes green, almost as if we're looking through a night-vision lens. (Which is confusing. The room isn't exactly dark, there's no reason for that to be on. Why is it green??) Through it, he sees himself, with much larger spikes than he had in NOAS. The scary thing? Dream-Beomgyu seems to notice him watching, as he levels a stare straight at the camera. (Fig. 4.4) There's what appears to be blood on the walls behind him. But the last time I thought something was blood, it was tomatoes, so take from that what you will. Fig. 4.4 - Why does he notice himself? Why is there blood? I have so many questions about this segment and almost zero answers. "Which side do I need to trust?"
I find these words at the end of this section incredibly intriguing. One of the potential meanings is that he wants to know whose side of the fight he just viewed that he should believe, which brings up the question, does he trust himself? Another meaning is that there's an argument occurring within their friend group, and he doesn't know who's right and who's wrong. Which person do you trust when you don't really know either of them? One final question: Is Present-Day-Beomgyu viewing the past...or the future? Or even the present? ...we probably won't ever get an answer to that, let's be real. ;-; Check out the next part of my 'Eternally - +U Analysis and Theories' series here! - Ilona O'Connor
