"At that time, I thought it was salvation." (cr: 'Eternally' Official MV) Yeonjun says that after looking straight at the Odd-Eyed Cat in the music video for 'Eternally.' To me, it sounds as though he is talking about conversing with the OEC itself, or perhaps referring to a deal that he made with it. Let's dive deeper. NOTE/TW/CW: This post will dive into subjects and most likely touch on religious factors. I do not intend to put shame or harsh words on any religion. It also may include references to self-harm/suicide and/or death/blood. If you are uncomfortable with reading such things, then don't read this post! I have plenty of others if you'd like to check them out instead! :) Also, one final reminder that all of this is FICTIONAL. <3 A Mini Introduction to Faust Johann Faust is the name of a fictional character that was based off of the real-life person, Johann Georg Faust. (Not a typo, that's how it's spelled. It's German.) The character of "Faust" has been recreated many, many times, but the one that most scholars use for literary analysis is Goethe's Faust. The main summary of the plot is as follows: (adapted from Wikipedia) "Faust is bored and depressed with his life as a scholar. After an attempt to take his own life, he calls on the Devil for further knowledge and magic powers with which to indulge all the pleasure and knowledge of the world. In response, the Devil's representative, Mephistopheles, appears. He makes a bargain with Faust: Mephistopheles will serve Faust with his magic powers for a set number of years, but at the end of the term, the Devil will claim Faust's soul, and Faust will be eternally enslaved. During the term of the bargain, Faust makes use of Mephistopheles in various ways. In Goethe's rendition, Faust is saved by God via his constant striving. However, in the early tales, Faust is irrevocably corrupted and believes his sins cannot be forgiven; and when the term ends, the Devil carries him off to Hell." It's about to get dark, so here's a cute Yeonjun selca to spur you on. Let's break it down part by part!! the breakdown
wait...how'd we get here, anyway? It all started when I noticed this symbol, as well as this symbol, in 'Run Away.' (cr: 'Run Away' Official MV) Then, the symbol on the eternity book and on the die in 'Eternally.' (cr: 'Eternally' Official MV) It's difficult to see, but it also appears around the base of the burning door in 'Run Away!' It's been featured in multiple live stages as well. And every time we see it, this symbol looks a little different. (cr: 'Run Away' Official MV and MAMA's 2019 TOMORROW X TOGETHER stage 'The Next Dream Chapter') (cr: Philosopher's Stone image from Google) I realized that the symbol looked fairly similar to the alchemical symbol for a Philosopher's Stone. Then, I went down a super long and convoluted rabbit trail to eventually end up at Faust, but I think this is also something important to note here, as Johann Georg Faust (the human, not the character) was a traveling alchemist, astrologist, and magician. Alchemist. As shown above, the alchemical symbol for a Philsopher's Stone is similar to the symbol in the +U. There's one link. Astrologist. Could this explain why the boys' star signs keep appearing? (cr: 'CROWN' Official MV) (cr: www.txt-theanswers.com) Magician. There seems to be aspects of magic in the +U, what with the die in 'Eternally' and the burning door in 'Run Away.' All three aspects can be linked back to Faust. Unfortunately, not much is known about the original man. His life is interwoven with myth and legend so tightly that it's hard to pull apart the fact from the story. (cr: 'Run Away' Official MV & 'Eternally' Official MV) Great! So...why should I care? Honestly...there was very little point to this post other than to point out the similarities and to warn you guys to keep an eye on it. The main thing to note is that it appears that there are, in fact, similarities, and if Yeonjun really did make a deal with the OEC...this won't end well. Or, it might, but it's going to be a long, painful road to get there.
