I just went over The Notes from MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 (versions 1, 2, 3, and 4) and we get so many backstory tidbits in this album it's astonishing. I feel like Seokjin's father plays a much larger part of this story than we may realize, so I'm compiling a list here of all the times he has popped up. I'll do my best to keep it in chronological order, but keep in mind, that whole time-travel thing makes it quite difficult. YEAR 9 - Seokjin attempts to help out a friend of his, Choi (last name, first name unknown), by running from some men that seem to be after Choi's father. Seokjin brings Choi to his house and hides him in his room. Seokjin's father comes into Seokjin's room and forces Choi to go with the scary men. The boy vanishes after that, but Seokjin's father never seems to notice, nor care. YEAR 12 - Seokjin's family is said to be rich, and when his mother dies, his father sends him to America to live with his grandmother. He doesn't come to Seokjin's take-off, and Seokjin spends seven long years in the U.S. YEAR 19 - Seokjin starts school in March, ten days after he returned from the U.S., and his father brought him to the principal before the day started. His father insists he will be good and Seokjin was forced to agree. (That sounds like a lame thing to complain about, but it was aggressive, trust me. HYYH The Notes 1 Chapter Everything Started From Here) Later, Seokjin finds his father's name on a wall in their storage room-turned-hideout. Underneath his name was a phrase, "Everything started from here." His was not the only name on the wall -- there were others, but we only know three. Kim Changjoon, Seokjin's father. Choi Gyuho, "the man who went missing." And a third, unnamed man, "the man from the asylum." YEAR 20 - Seokjin was forced by the principal to give away the location of the boys' hideout. The principal threatened to tell his father he was a bad student if he didn't, and so Seokjin told him. YEAR 21 - Seokjin goes to Los Angeles. It doesn't say anything about his father, but he will come into play in about a year. YEAR 22 - Seokjin's father called him in LA and told him to come back to Korea. Seokjin got on a plane and flew back to Songju. Seokjin points out that there was most likely a reason his father called him back from LA, as his father doesn't move without reasons, but he didn't ask, and his father didn't tell him. Seokjin's father's name is Kim Changjoon, and he's an assemblyman. He ends up heading a reconstruction project in Songju, which entails destroying both Hoseok's orphanage as well as Namjoon's container-yard. Hoseok is furious and upset, whereas Namjoon is unconcerned -- apparently, talks of demolition appear quite regularly in the container-yard, but nothing ever happens. When he starts the reconstruction project (Masterplan for the Redevelopment of Downtown Songju), he calls Seokjin into his office to "help out a lot here." His father then scolds him for still associating with the other six boys, and Seokjin doesn't say anything. (He's missing Jungkook's discharge-from-the-hospital-party to go to this stupid redevelopment thing anyway. Sorry, got a little carried away.) This is all I can find as of March 3rd, 2020. If I find anymore I'll update the post! All information garnered from HYYH The Notes 1, SAVE ME Webtoon, and Album Notes from LY:H, LY:T, LY:A, MOTS:7.
