I was going over the Smeraldo blog posts and the 'Black Swan' music video the other day and I noticed some similarities between the BU and the +U involving time and people traveling through it. One of the things I wanted to point out was that each universe has one person that represents each period of time--past, present, and future. Seokjin is the past. Seokjin is constantly going backwards. He wants to fix everything by going back to the root of the issue. He's even the one that agrees to do all this in the first place--when the OEC asks him if he could go back if he would fix everything, he says "yes." I get the sense that something happened that Seokjin has forgotten, likely relating to Jungkook's accident, which is probably why everything keeps going wrong in the plotline. (Left: 'Save Me' Webtoon, 2019 : Right: 'Love Yourself Highlight Reel' - Big Hit Labels, 2020) Soobin is the past. Likewise, Soobin is stuck in a loop of the past. His plotline runs in the past, dipping into the present whenever he wakes up. I get the sense that something happened a while back, but he cannot remember it, which is why he's having these dreams (or memories) of the past. His plotline can also dip into the future if he's not careful, however--as seen in the beginning of 'Eternally' and referenced in his conversation in 'Magic Island.' I also believe that if there really is time travel happening in the +U (and I think that is highly probable) then it's most likely Soobin that is doing the traveling, which could play into his "future" seeing. (Clips from 'Eternally' - Big Hit Labels, 2020) Taehyung is the future. Taehyung is always seeing ahead. Time after time, he references things as having "happened in my dreams." He foresaw Jimin trying to drown himself in the bathtub in the 'Save Me' webtoon. He foresaw himself on top of the observatory in the 'HYYH: Prologue' music video, which we get from the Notes and the 'Euphoria' music video. Speaking of which, 'Euphoria' shows that he is aware of these dreams, and is aware when something is different. It seems like Taehyung is outside of the time loop, as he remembers certain things from timeline to timeline, plus he has these dreams. (Which totally weirds out Seokjin.) He also suspects Seokjin, to the point where the two have gotten into verbal and physical fights not once, not twice, but three times canonically. (Left: Taehyung tries to kill his father and Seokjin steps in to stop him. Taehyung accidentally stabs him and Seokjin ends up dying.) (Middle: I don't exactly know when this fight takes place, but it probably takes place in an alternate timeline to the webtoon's ending.) (Right: "Hyung, is that all? Aren't you hiding something from us?" Taehyung and Seokjin got into a fight at the beach on May 22, Year 22.) (Left: 'Save Me' Webtoon, 2019) (Middle: 'Blood Sweat & Tears (Japanese Version)' - Big Hit Labels, 2017) (Right: 'Euphoria' - Big Hit Labels, 2018) Yeonjun is the future. Likewise, Yeonjun gets visions of the future, but he doesn't know what they mean, what to do with them, or why he's having them, plus it doesn't seem like he can even remember them. He sees the same vision that Soobin sees, both in 'Eternally.' It also feels as though Yeonjun has the strongest connection with the OEC in the +U, which we know is what gave Seokjin the ability to travel through time. It seems as if the OEC might actually out to do Yeonjun harm, however, which I find interesting, considering how it has left Taehyung and Seokjin mostly alone. (Left: 'Nap of a star' - Big Hit Labels, 2019 : Right: 'Eternally' - Big Hit Labels, 2020) Jungkook is the present. Jungkook sees what's happening. He sees all of the boys falling apart. He sees Seokjin acting weird. He sees Taehyung's family troubles. He sees Yoongi's mental issues. Jungkook is the only one that can see all of it. In fact, he's even starting to suspect Seokjin of something (probably of his car accident). Jungkook is the center of the BU--he is the reason the plotline is still going. He is the only reason the boys have even attempted to stay together. (Left: 'HYYH The Notes 1' July 16, Year 22 - Hoseok's point of view : Right: 'Begin' - Big Hit Labels, 2016) The present is...who? This is where it gets tricky. In the +U, there's no direct comparison for Jungkook. It could easily be Hyuka, or Taehyun, or even (albeit probably much less likely as of right now) Beomgyu. - For Hyuka, he sees what's going on. He knows the others are hiding something from him. He knows something is happening with Soobin, specifically, as we can tell through the concept photos for 'The Dream Chapter : Eternity.' He's the one in 'Nap of a star' that was able to help Yeonjun. He's the one with a 'heart' "pain" (for lack of a better word), showing that he seems to be the one holding the five of them together--although he could easily be the one to force them apart. (Left: 'Nap of a star' - Big Hit Labels, 2019 : Middle: "Hyung, you're not that kind of person. I know." - TDC:Eternity Concept Photos : Right: 'Eternally' - Big Hit Labels, 2020) - For Taehyun, he definitely knows what's going on. Similarly to Hyuka, he knows that the older boys (specifically Yeonjun and Soobin as Beomgyu is just as frustrated as Taehyun is) are hiding something. The difference is that I think Taehyun already understands whatever "it" is. He seems to be suspecting Soobin of something, although it's not clear what just yet. He seems to want to get to the bottom of whatever the issue between the five of them is, and is determined to find a way to fix it. ("We will find a way" appears in his segment of the 'Eternally' MV as well as on one of his photocards.) (Left: 'Eternally' - Big Hit Labels, 2020 : Right: 'Can't You See Me?' - Big Hit Labels, 2020) - For Beomgyu, he seems to be split right now, which is really interesting to me. Some things that he does seem severely influenced by the past, but then again, is it possible that he's seeing the future? I need more information--specifically, on that fight he has in 'Eternally' MV--before I can decide if Beomgyu fits the "present" aspect. (Left: "I don't think this is the world I knew." - TDC:Eternity Concept Photos : Middle: 'Eternally' - Big Hit Labels, 2020 : Right: "Who's liar?" - TDC:Eternity Concept Photos) The biggest question I have right now is actually about Seokjin's father. If he could time-travel the same way that Seokjin could, then who in his group of friends was the future and the present, respectively? And what happened to them? - Ilona O'Connor
